Government Funding for 9-Month-Olds, 2-Year-Olds and 3- & 4-Year-Olds
GOVERNMENT FUNDING
How is Government Funding Applied Throughout the Year?
The government offers up to 30 funded hours for basic childcare only, per week. This means all hours that are funded at our setting a free. The Goverment provide funding term time only, however they allow settings to ensure year-round support, which is called a stretched offer.
This means families can claim up to 22 hours per week all year round, instead of 30 hours for 38 weeks, ensuring a consistent allocation of childcare hours across the full nursery year.
Who is Eligible for Funded Nursery Places?
-
All children aged 9 months to 4 years can access up to 22 funded hours if parents meet eligibility criteria.
-
Some 2-year-olds can receive 11 hours if parents claim certain benefits.
-
All 3- and 4-year-olds continue to receive up to 11 hours, regardless of eligibility.
-
All children age 3 years upwards can recieve 11 hours of funding a week.
This expansion ensures more families have access to affordable early years education.
More information and eligibility guidance can be
found at beststartinlife.gov.uk
What does this cover?
The Government’s Early Years Funding covers the delivery of basic childcare.
If families went a childcare only package we have this covered with our fully funded packages. These are limited and subject to availability.
Most families choose our private enhanced package, which includes a wider range of enrichments, experiences and services beyond the funded basic childcare requirements. These elements are not covered by the funded entitlement and therefore incur an Enhancement Services Charge each day.
At the old school house, we are committed to providing exceptional early years education, no matter which package you choose. Our nurturing environment, dedicated staff, and engaging curriculum ensure that every child thrives.
For detailed information on our funding offer please read our nursery funding pack provided when you enroll.
How funded is used at our setting
For each nursery day you aare able to use up to 9 hours of early education funding. All other hours that funding does not cover is charged at our hourly rate for childcare only

Packed Lunches
Why We Do Not Support Packed Lunches
To protect children’s health, safety, and wellbeing, we do not accept packed lunches. If you are looking for a nursery were you can provide your own meals I am afraid we are not able to help.
Our nursery chef prepares nutritious, seasonal meals suitable for all ages and dietary requirements. This allows us to:
-
Manage allergens safely
-
Reduce choking risks
-
Ensure consistent nutritional standards
-
Maintain food hygiene and storage requirements
Due to limited refrigeration space, safe storage of packed lunches there is no way we can accept this method of meals.
For these reasons, all meals and snacks are included within our enhancment and enrichment offers for those families wishing to choose our year round option.

Parents Responsibility
Headcount Day
Headcount Day is the cut off each term where children wishing to claim funding must be in attendance in order to receive the funding for that term. This applies to all children with the exception of Local Authority funded 2-year-olds (with a valid 6-digit eligibility code) who can start at any point during the term. The exact date for Headcount is set by the local authority and dates can vary. They are however usually towards the end of January, April and September.
If you wish to join the nursery after Headcount Day and are not currently attending another nursery, we will not be able claim any funding until the following term.
All sessions will therefore be charged at their respective full rates.
If you are wishing to move to the old school house day nursery from another provider, then will be able to claim any unused funding from your previous provider.
Headcount is also the cut off for those wishing to increase their funded sessions.
If you are an existing parent and are planning on increasing the number of session in your booking pattern, this needs to be in place by headcount day. Increases after headcount will not be eligible for funding until the following term.
All sessions will therefore be charged at their respective full rates.
Please contact us for information on headcount days or alternativley contact FISH (01482) 396469

Final Note
A Respectful Reminder to Our Community
I never in my wildest dreams thought I would have to create this end note to families that our setting will not tolerate abusive, aggressive or inappropriate behaviour towards staff in relation to funding, eligibility or entitlements. The funding is an emotive, complicated system to navigate for parents and providers alike.
Our role as a childcare provider is to offer high-quality care and education for children. Decisions around funding and eligibility are set externally and are not determined by the nursery.
We are always happy to share information, signpost families to the appropriate services, and support where we can — however, we cannot influence eligibility criteria.
We ask that all communication with our team remains respectful and professional.
Abuse of any kind towards staff is unacceptable and will be addressed in line with our policies.
Thank you to the many families who continue to work with us in a positive and respectful way.
We value our partnership with you and remain committed to supporting children and families within the scope of our role.
