About our Philosophy

Fall Tokens

Play Based Learning

"We listen to the children and make their ideas happen!"

At The Old School House Nursery we do things a little differently. If you haven’t already visited the nursery we’d really recommend that you come and see for yourself our nursery and environment.

During the nursery day we allow children the opportunity to test their ideas through carefully planned experiences because we believe that's the way they learn.

(We are passionate to talk about this forever if you'll let us).

We think CREATIVITY is as important as literacy and mathematics. We tune in to your child's creative interests and then give them the opportunity to shine!

We have inviting indoor area's to discover and  interesting play spaces, with lots of light and wonderful outdoor area's. We have an Outdoor Classroom where our Explorers follow a nature based programme in small groups and have free flow access to our Gruffalo Den.

We think the outdoors is especially important to children’s learning and development.

Each day we make the nursery environment inspiring by offering lots of open-ended, natural and reclaimed resources for the children to explore and they add their imaginations and creativity to make their days filled with learning and memories.

So contact us today for further information , we cannot wait to show you around.....

Outdoors

"The only thing that stops us going outside is our clothes - not the weather!"

Outdoor Explorers

Our children spend as much time outdoors as they do in, We have our very own Outdoor Explorers Classroom where all nature based learning takes place. A Gruffalo Den, Edible Garden, Gardening Club and all the Nature Resources you need for discovering and exploring right on our doorstep. All we ask is that the children are dressed appropriatly for the weather and we take care of the rest !

Nature Walks

Each week the children embark on their Nature Walk within our wonderful community.

Woodland Sessions

We deliver woodland sessions between 2 locations: a  woodland site in Sancton, and our very own extensive Nursery garden. Having access to these locations enables our children to experience outdoor play, nature walks, den and shelter building, hunting for mini beasts, mud sculptures, alongside lots of bush craft activities.

Woodland sessions take place all year round enabling children to experience seasonal changes.

During each session our Educators set attainable tasks on a range of levels to help children achieve goals whilst progressing at their own rate.

Reggio Emilia

We are a Reggio Emilia
Inspired Nursery

At The Old School House Day Nursery we have been inspired by the Reggio Emilia educational philosophy for many years.

We focus on your child’s style of learning. All children are unique and so are their learning styles. It is our job to make sure that the best opportunities for learning are as individual as the children in our care.

Adopting the Reggio Emilia approach means we build firm relationships with you, the parents, as well as your child.

We know that each family unit is unique, so we adapt our environment according to the needs of the families in our care. This creates, healthy, confident little children who are happy to take risks, in a safe and challenging environment.

We encourage and support our parents with the day to day challenges that they face when trying to juggle work and home life.

We consider ourselves to be ‘Your extended family’.

Community

A Real Sense of Belonging

The Community plays such an important part in our every day and we very much like to spread the word when it comes to supporting local and small businesses.

We have a community page  where parents can share their business cards or information about local events that are taking place. They can buy and sell clothes and resources and also ask each other questions.

We run an Open Day once a year for the local community to come into the nursery and take a look at the environment, talk about the school's history and the part it played in Sancton life and of course have a cuppa!

At our nursery we’re very passionate about supporting our local community, we involved the local community in so many ways, whether it be Singing to Sancton at Christmas or getting involved in Community based projects.

The children learn about the strength of the community and what it means to us as a childcare setting to have such wonderful and rich friendships and supporters.
