The Old School House Day Nursery
Summer Term News
Dear Parents –
Welcome to our Summer Term Newsletter, this year seems to have
flown by and we are eagerly awaiting for the better weather to
arrive so we can enjoy lots of outdoor play. This term is however
tinged with some sadness as our older Ladybirds prepare for school.
The children are already having some visits to their schools which
have gone very well so far and we have waved them off with heavy
hearts.
In June Helen and
Rosie are having an open morning for the Ladybird’s class teachers
and so far we have had confirmation that the following teachers
have responded.

Once again we have
been buying some new things for the nursery and you may have seen
the lovely book area and home corner that has recently been added
to the nursery room which the children are really enjoying. We are
also looking forward to our new shade sail for the garden which is
being put up this week and we have a new shed arriving for our
outdoor toys too! We hope everyone has a very enjoyable
Summer ahead and if you are heading off on holiday for that well
deserved rest have a lovely time and please let the nursery know of
your holiday dates.

Note from Katie
Honeysuckle Farm Trip - Please can
we ask parents who have not yet paid for the trip but informed us
they would like their child to attend to forward £12.00 so that we
can confirm their place. If we have not received payment by Friday
6th June, 2008 we will assume you no longer wish for
your child to attend. A letter will be sent out w/c 9th
June with full details of the trip including timings.
Summer Party
Everyone is invited
to join us for our Summer and School Leavers Party on Sunday August
17th, 2008. Anyone who has been to one of our parties
before will agree that it really is a lovely afternoon for you and
your children. This year we have a bouncy castle, face painting and
entertainment and a BBQ. We are looking for two of our Dad’s to
volunteer for the BBQ, so if you are a dab hand with flipping the
burgers or know how not to burn sausages we would love to hear from
you! Tickets for the Summer Party will be on sale from July so
please keep a look out on the outdoor notice board or our website
for information. School Leavers are invited free of
charge.
Parents
Evening
Our Parents
Evenings have been arranged for the following dates:
Monday July
14th
Caterpillars and Butterflys
Tuesday July
15th
Bumble Bees and Ladybirds
Please speak to
either Elaine or Sara if you would like to book an appointment to
see your key person.
Baby Room News
Here in the baby room we have been busy making some
changes to the way we plan and evaluate our children’s activities.
Each key person plans a daily activity which picks up on any
current interests or development needs of all of our
Butterfly’s. From our planning we then observe each child and
from these observations we are able to plan the next steps for your
child. Observations play a very big part in the new Early Years
Foundation Stage which we will be working with from September 2008.
That is why yours and our observations are so valuable. We would
like to thank all the parents who are completing the Magic Moments
for their children as these are invaluable to our planning ahead
and helps us build up a “learning journey” for each child. These
Learning Journeys and observations will be used as part of your
child’s profiles and these will be handed out to you prior to the
parents evenings – We are always striving for excellence in
everything we do at the nursery and you have a lot more to look
forward to!
Please can we
remind parents to bring back forms for sun cream.
Some Families are
still not labeling their child’s belongings including bottles and
dummies and therefore we cannot be held responsible for any loss of
your personal items. Please can you ensure that you do label
everything. If you would like to purchase labels we can recommend

Nursery Room
News
A big hello to
everyone from the nursery room. We have been doing lots of lovely
things on our new planning which have included themed days of the
children’s favourite stories. Our full planning is available for
all parents to see and is displayed in the room – we will also be
putting up an overview of our themed days in the outdoor notice
board each week. Thank you to everyone who brought in toilet roll
tubes for our binoculars – we really enjoyed walking in the
jungle.
The children have
been enjoying show and tell and we have had some lovely things
brought please remember though that show and tell is an opportunity
for your child to bring in something of interest and not
toys. Thank you
As the weather is getting better we are happy for your
child to come to the nursery in their doodles of plimsols and wear
them all day. There is no longer any need for a change of shoes
until the Autumn Term.
Bobby Bear will be
coming to visit our ladybirds before they leave us for school –
Bobby Bear can visit your house for a two week holiday and then he
must return as he is a busy bear and has lots of travels to embark
upon.

Sow Grow and
Eat
Walter’s seeds are beginning to grow and we are seeing
signs of some vegetables growing. The children have been enjoying
water the plants and looking at them with Walter. Jenny our cook
also brought in some sunflower plants which we have placed on the
steps against the wall by the nursery entrance. We are going to
measure ourselves against the sunflowers over the coming weeks.
Thank you Jenny
Home
Accidents
Please can we remind parents of the importance of
informing the staff at the nursery if your child has had an injury
outside of the nursery that has left a significant mark on your
child’s body. This will then be added to our home accident book. We
need to be informed of this so we are aware that the injury has not
been caused during the nursery session. The nursery takes accidents
and incident very seriously and we record even minor bumps and
scrapes as it is our duty to keep you informed – please could you
do the same for more serious cuts and bruises. Thank you for your
help.
