Welcome To Your Nursery

The Old School House Day Nursery opened in September 2000 and offers childcare and education for children from birth to five years. We are open 51 weeks a year only closing for Christmas and Bank Holidays.

With only 49 places we are a small family run day nursery in East Riding of Yorkshire with a real emphasis for creating childhood memories to treasure for the children who attend our setting. Our private nursery prides itself on our excellent reputation for offering Outstanding childcare which is testament to our owner and leader Sally Minns. Sally has a wealth of childcare experience and qualifications to allow you to have peace of mind that her and her long standing team of Educators consistently strive to make every families nursery experience unique and special.

Our nursery genuinely listens to each child's and families needs and adapts the child's nursery experience accordingly.

The Nest

Age Range 3 mths to 18 mths
Staff Ratio 1 staff member: 3 children

In The Nest your key-person will ensure all your baby’s needs are met in a welcoming, relaxing and calming environment. We have lots of sensory and messy play activities to feed your baby’s young imagination. Not forgetting plenty of time for lots of comforting cuddles to help your baby settle into nursery.

We aim to follow your home routines as closely as possible and at the end of each day you will receive feedback and a daily diary informing you of the activities your child has enjoyed, meals, sleeps and achievements.

The Nest was designed to to promote the individual learning of each baby. We encourage babies to access all areas of provision through free play and having resources at an appropriate level.  We have cosy sleep areas too with sleeping arrangements in our dream coracles to ensure your baby feels safe and secure with us and free flow access to their own outdoor space.

Tapestry Online Journal

We will let you know about development milestones and daily life at nursery on Tapestry, an online journal where we record all the learning and fun of your child’s early education.

Your baby’s Learning Journal will record special moments and keep you involved in a partnership with us as your child blossoms and grows.

Tapestry allows us to securely share your baby’s progress with you in real time. We can add notes and images and have them immediately available to any authorised person as part of the complete story of your child’s life at Daisy Chain. Parents are able to view and comment on these special moments, and are able to contribute their own stories of the child’s life outside nursery.

Outdoor explorers

Our Outdoor Explorer sessions take place every week

Our Outdoor Explorer sessions are where children are spending the whole session outdoors, in some of the wild spaces of Sancton, experiencing nature throughout the seasons.

Our Outdoor Explorer sessions take place every week, whatever the weather (within reason), with children dressed in appropriately for the season and exploration. We will venture out for the day s at one of our 3 chosen wild spaces; the woodland, parkland, or the back field. The children explore and investigate nature based activities and den building as well as occasionally preparing their own lunch. The Children are carefully supervised by our staff team to ensure their safety is paramount and all activities are child led with adult supervision.

The Team to Help Your Child Grow

The Old School House Nursery is part of a larger community and true connections to the community are a vital part of our philosophy of the nursery. Because we believe daily exposure to the natural environment is essential for the healthy development of children, experiences in and around nature are a key component of our educational beliefs.

We recognise the role that families play in creating deep and meaningful experiences for children. We are very lucky to have our Nursery Owner and Founder, Sally as our Nursery Leader with 30 years childcare experience. Sally is, always open to the points of view of parents and other important caregivers in the lives of the children.

Sally continually responds to the demanding standards to which she holds and her expertise in childcare has led the setting to an outstanding rating which her and the nursery team are extremely proud of. Every decision related to the educational policies of the school are made in collaboration with her team and with the highest regard to the mission, vision, and values of the nursery to ensure each child attending The Old School House receives the very best start in life with treasured memories of their Early Years.
