The Old
School House Day Nursery Autumn Term Newsletter
A Note From
Sally,
The Autumn
Term is now upon us and we are thinking ahead to the wonderful
things we will be doing at the nursery over the coming weeks.
Countdown to Christmas has already begun with only 12 weeks left to
Christmas. How will we learn all our songs in time? Don’t be
worried if your child breaks out with a rendition of jingle bells
over the coming weeks – we have to start early with our practicing!
You will also be getting information about what part your child
will play in our Christmas Play to give you plenty of notice to get
the sewing machine out. (for any parents who like” ready mades”
Woolies have a good selection!) Our flag pole has now arrived
which was a gift from our school leavers and will be put up in the
garden by Maddie’s daddy in the next week or so. We have obtained
permission by East Riding Council to erect the flag pole which we
are very excited about.
So what’s
ahead for this term…. Well the children who have moved from the
baby room to the nursery room are all settled in and have already
quickly adjusted to the new room and new routine. Our new starters
from the tiny babies to some older children are also finding their
feet and getting use to their new surroundings. All that’s left is
for us to settle into the next new term and see what exciting
things it may bring!
Halloween
Party
Our Halloween
Party on October 31st will be themed as “The Pumpkin
Party”. Children attending on that day can dress up as a Pumpkin or
Black Cat if they wish. We will also be holding our annual Pumpkin
Competition with prizes given to the best carved pumpkins for each
group.
Pumpkins
should be brought into the nursery week commencing 27th
October 2008 by anyone one wishing to take part. Elaine and Sara
are organising this years Halloween event and will send out further
information in the next two weeks.
Soup and
Sparklers
On Wednesday
5th November the Bumble Bees and Ladybirds will be
having tea outside in the garden and the staff will light some
sparklers for Bonfire Night.
Nursery
Photographs
On Friday
24th October Justine from Picture Box will be coming
into the nursery to take photographs of the children. The
photographs will be back at the nursery in time for Christmas and
make lovely gifts for family and friends.
If you would
like to book your child in for their photograph please speak to any
staff member in your child’s room who will be happy to help. All
children attending the nursery on that day will have their
photographs taken unless parents request otherwise. You are under
no obligation to purchase the pictures if you they are not to your
liking. For more information on Picture Box visit: www.the-picture-box.co.uk
Nursery Room
Requests
Please can you
label your children’s coats and wellies with stickers or permanent
markers. Many of the children have the same shoes and coats and it
becomes rather difficult for the children when they are getting
dressed to find their own.
Could we also
request that children only bring items of interest for show and
tell and not toys. Show and Tell is to encourage the children to
talk about a place they have been or a memorable occasion. Toys do
cause a number of conflicts between the children and they often get
very upset when they cannot play with them or they go missing..
Thank you for your understanding.
Outdoor
Shoes
Now that the
weather is changing (was it ever sunny!) We would ask that all
children come to nursery in Wellington Boots which makes it easy
for them to slip on and off. Children should also bring one pair of
indoor shoes which can be slippers or plimsolls.
Harvest
Festival
The children
are taking part in the local Harvest Festival at Sancton Church and
we are asking children to bring in one food item to put in our
Harvest Box. We would ask that this be either tinned or packet
goods. If you would like to take part please speak to Rosie who is
organising this event. Thank you
Holiday
Club
The Old School
House Day Nursery is operating a holiday club in the October half
term for children aged 4 – 8 years. The club will be running from
North Newbald Primary School and if you would like to book a place
for any school age children please speak to Sally. Any parent can
register their child to attend the club whether they attended the
setting in the past or not it will be great fun for all children
attending!
All About Me
Sheets
Some time ago
the staff sent out all about me sheets to each child attending the
setting. It is really important for your child’s development that
these forms are completed and returned to the nursery as soon as
possible to be put in your child’s development profiles as part of
their Learning Journey.
